2011
- 2012 Apollo Flex Rates
Valid from
01 January 2011 - 31 March 2012
Flex Rates give you the very best available price for the motorhome
you want to rent. If you book early and there are plenty of motorhomes
available, you will pay a much lower price. If you book closer to
departure date or book for a high demand period then the rate
will be higher.
However, once booked, should you need to amend the dates, the prevailing
rates will apply. We get advised of new flex rates each week. Therefore
each quote only valid until the end of each week.

What
exactly is Flex?
Flex Rates allows us to offer flexible pricing, which gives you the opportunity
to secure the best possible rental rate. The Flex Rates are based on a very
simple system of supply and demand. So when there are a large number of vehicles
available for hire from a particular branch then the rental rate is lower.
This way you can benefit from the lower rates offered. Generally, this means
that the earlier you book the cheaper the rate! There will also be great Standby
Rates!
Branches:
Apollo has branches in Auckland and Christchurch. Branches are open seven days
a week, 8am to 4:30pm. Branches will be closed Christmas Day, New Years
Day and Good Friday.
Transfer:
Vehicles must be collected and returned to our branches (not airports). A transfer
to the Apollo branch from the Airport and vice versa is provided free of charge.
Diesel Tax Recovery Fee
The Diesel
Tax Recovery Fee will be calculated and collected on return of
the vehicle based on the kilometres travelled during the hire.
The fee per 100km is as follows:
- Hitop
(inc cheapa campa): Nil
- 2
Berth ST (inc cheapa campa): NZD $4.70
- 4
Berth: NZD $4.70
- 6
Berth: NZD $4.85
We
reserve the right to amend the Diesel Tax Recovery Fee upon Government
intervention.
Credit Cards:
We only accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club. Visa and
MasterCard will incur an additional 1.75% surcharge on any transaction. American
Express and Diners Club will incur an additional 4.5% surcharge on any transaction.
Exchange Rate / Currency
Variations:
All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange
rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared
to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for variances
up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 15 working days depending
on the renter’s Financial Institution.
Rental Duration:
The minimum rental for all vehicles is seven days.

period of 14 days applies.
Minimum rental periods are subject to change during

Child Restraint
Policy
The safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to Apollo. Therefore
we have developed a best practice approach to Child Restraints. We aim for
the best safety (not just recommended levels) for our clients’ children.
Following
this page is a table which indicates the type and number of Child
Restraints that can be fitted to our vehicles.
Clients can
rent Child Restraints (must be pre-booked) from Apollo for NZD
$20 per rental. It is the client’s responsibility to fit
them (our branch staff are legally unable to fit them or advise
on
how they should be fitted) to the vehicle and we recommend the
following guidelines.
In New Zealand
we offer a free transfer to the Apollo branch from the Airport
and vice versa. If clients have children that require a Child
Restraint then we will order a taxi with the appropriate Child
Restraints and we will pay for the taxi transfer.
We hope that
by providing this information you can give your clients definitive
answers on this topic.
First Aid Kits:
A First Aid kit is supplied in every vehicle. If the seal is broken or the
kit is not returned the kit becomes the property of the renter and a NZD
$50 fee
is charged when the vehicle is returned.
L.P. Gas Refill Service
Fee:
The gas bottle(s) is supplied full. A service fee is payable on pick up of
the vehicle:
- NZD
$25– Hitop
Campervan, 2 Berth S/T Camper
- NZD
$35– 3,
4 and 6 Berth Motorhomes
The gas bottle
can be returned empty to Apollo at the completion of the rental.
The fee applies for each part of a multiple rental.
Multiple
Rentals:
Consecutive rentals can be combined to
qualify for a long-term discount rate. Australian and
New Zealand car/campervan rentals can be combined to
obtain a long-term discount rate, providing travel is
within a 3 month period. If drop off of a vehicle and
pick up of a new vehicle occurs on the same day then
a day each will be charged per respective vehicle. Multiple
rentals are treated as separate rentals under the one
way fee and minimum rental period conditions.
Travel Restrictions:
Two Wheel Drive Vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads. The only
exception to this is the last remaining kilometres of loose road surface on
any major ski field access roads or any recognised campground access road less
than 5 kilometres in length.
No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach
(Northland), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook), Bluff Road that runs between Kuatunu
and Mataurangi and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula).
Apollo reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements
in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
Change of Drop Off Destination:
If the renter wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has
commenced, they first must obtain authorisation from Apollo. Subject to the
change being approved, a minimum additional charge of NZD $700 will apply.
Rental
Extension:
If the customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first
obtain authorisation from Apollo Reservations who will advise of the additional
costs. Rental extension is subject to fleet availability. The extra cost (Gross
Rate) of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone
or at an Apollo Branch immediately on confirmation of the rental extension.
Failure to obtain authorisation will result in the renter being charged double
the daily gross rental rate.
Repairs:
Although we run late model vehicles, it may happen that small repairs are required.
Repairs up to NZD $100 may be affected without authorisation
and will be reimbursed unless the damage is caused by the renter. For amounts
over NZD $100,
Apollo will need to be informed in advance. All vehicles are enrolled in
the New
Zealand Automobile Association and 24hr emergency roadside assistance is
available.
Traffic
Infringements:
We reserve the right to charge the renter for any speeding or parking fines,
traffic infringements or road toll fines. An additional administration fee
of NZD $75 per fine will apply to cover the costs of processing.
Change Of Vehicle:
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances,
we reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification
and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does
not entitle the renter to a refund.
Vehicle Category:
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.
Voluntary Downgrade:
Should the renter decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked within 14 days
of pick up or during the rental then they will not be entitled to any refund.
Limit of Liability:
In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter our liability
is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure
(unless caused by the renter) the remaind of the hire period.
Important:
We reserve the right to refuse any rental at our discretion.
Smoking:
Smoking is not allowed in our vehicles.
Animals:
No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.
Booking Amendments:
If you wish to make any changes to your booking the booking will be calculated
by using either the original flex rate or the flex rate that is valid at the
time of the booking change, depending on whichever rate is higher. There are
no exceptions to this rule. The following situations are classified as booking
alterations:
- Change
of date for vehicle pick-up or drop-off
- Change
of location (depot) for vehicle pick-up or drop-off
- Change
of vehicle category
- Name change
If you decide to extend your rental duration (changing
the drop-off date) by 2 days the same flex rate
is used that applied on the day when you made your
original booking. If you extend by 3 days or more, the booking change rule
applies as outlined above.
If an amendment is made to the rental dates within
14 days of collection, no refund will be made if
the length of hire is shortened (that is; the rental
will be charged at the number of days originally booked). A relocation
fee may apply if the collection or return location is amended
within 14 days
of
vehicle pick up or if notification occurs during the hire.
Travel Insurance:
We strongly recommend that renters ensure they take
out the highest level of Travel Insurance.
PROTECTION PACKAGE
Personal Injury:
New Zealand legislation provides limited coverage
for personal injury. Apollo strongly recommends
that all people travelling in New Zealand take out their
own personal travel insurance.
Property
Damage:
The Vehicle is insured for damage to it or damage to the property of a third
party. However the renter is responsible up to the amount of the applicable
Liability for the cost of such damage to third party property, or to the rented
Vehicle. The renter is also responsible for the cost of demurrage for the period
the Vehicle is unavailable due to repairs. The Liability applies in respect
of each claim, not per rental.
The Liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid
at the time the accident is reported to Apollo, not at the completion of the
rental Period.
Standard Liability:
Apollo’s rental charge includes a Standard Liability of $7,500.
A Bond of NZD $7,500 will be collected at the time of entering
into the Rental Contract. Payment of this Bond is only accepted by credit card.
The NZD $7,500 will be debited to the credit card account
immediately. An administration fee equal to the merchant surcharge applies.
The Standard Liability can be reduced by purchasing
one of the following Reduction Options:
Reduction
Option 1:
A Liability of NZD $2,500 applies. This Option can be purchased
by paying to Apollo NZD $27 per day. The maximum amount payable
for this Option per rental is NZD $1,350 – i.e.
50 days rental.
A Bond of NZD $2,500 will be collected at the time of entering
into the Rental Contract. Payment of this Bond is only accepted by credit card.
The NZD $2,500 will be debited to the credit card account immediately. An administration fee
equal to the merchant surcharge applies.
Reduction Option 2 (VIP
Cover):
A $0 (zero) Liability applies. This Option can be purchased by paying to Apollo
NZD $44 per day. The maximum amount payable for this Option
per rental is NZD $2,200– i.e.
50 days rental.
Under this option one windscreen and two tyres will be covered for accidental
damage. Should these amounts be exceeded the cost to repair or replace the
items will not be covered and will be the responsibility of the renter.
A Bond of NZD $250 will be collected at the time of entering
into the Rental Contract. This Bond is payable to Apollo by an open signed
credit card imprint with an
authorisation obtained (sufficient funds must be available) for NZD
$250.
Bond:
For security purposes, only a credit card can be used to provide a Bond. The
credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the Bond upon vehicle
collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any
damage to the rental vehicle.
The Bond is fully refundable when the vehicle is returned to the correct location
on time, is full of fuel and all other terms of the Rental Contract have been
complied with. If there is damage to the vehicle on its return, the Bond will
be used to cover the cost of such damage up to the amount of the relevant Liability.
However, if the terms of the Rental Contract are breached and the Bond is insufficient
to cover the damage then any extra cost will be charged. Full
Responsibility:
At all times the renter is responsible for:

caused where the terms of Rental Contract have been breached.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are Apollo motorhomes and campervans easy to drive?
We
understand how important your peace of mind is when driving an
unfamiliar vehicle in unfamiliar surroundings. From the thousands
of customers and staff who have driven our motorhomes and campervans,
we have had nothing but surprise and pleasure at how easy our
vehicles are to drive.
Driving a motorhome is slightly different to driving a car,
as they are diesel engine commercial vehicles. However, as long
as you are familiar with driving a vehicle with manual transmission,
your driving experience will be simple and easy as you enjoy
the comfort, luxury and safety of an Apollo Motorhome!
Do I need a special driver's licence?
On pick up of the vehicle
a full (non provisional) and valid driver's licence must be presented
in person by all people wishing
to drive the vehicle. If the licence is not in English, an International
driver's licence or valid, certified translation is also required.
The minimum age to drive Apollo vehicles is 21 years, and the
maximum age is 75 years.
Where can I drive my Apollo vehicle?
Two Wheel Drive
Vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads. The only
exception to this is the last remaining kilometres
of loose road surface on any major ski field access roads or
any recognised campground access road less than 5 kilometres
in length.
Other travel restrictions apply as specified in our Terms and
Conditions, and Apollo occasionally restricts vehicle movements
in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
Where do we camp at night?
Caravan Parks
We strongly recommend you stay in
a caravan (RV) park. New Zealand has an extensive network of
caravan parks in all major tourist
centres and most towns. Caravan parks offer excellent recreational
opportunities, plus essential shower and toilet facilities. Powered
sites enable you to connect your vehicle to electricity. The
approximate cost is NZ$20-30 per night.
National Parks
Most New Zealand national parks have
areas set aside for camping. There are often showers, toilets,
barbecues and picnic areas.
National parks are also beautiful and peaceful locations to stay
overnight. However, national parks do not usually offer powered
sites.
Roadside Camping
Apollo Discount VouchersCouncil
laws prohibit camping on the side of the road near towns and
cities. However, outside towns
and in country areas it is generally permitted.
Apollo provides all clients with discount vouchers which can
be used at a variety of camping sites, attractions and tourist
parks around New Zealand.
How long does the battery system last?
The battery
system will provide power for between 12 - 20 hours when fully
charged depending on use.
Apollo vehicles operate on ancillary battery systems which power
internal appliances such as the fridge, lights and water pump.
The batteries only recharge when you drive the vehicle or when
connected to mains power. Idling the engine won't provide enough
power to recharge the house battery.
When you are connected, all equipment automatically runs on
mains power rather than the battery. Appliances such as the television,
microwave, rear air-conditioning and power points only run on
mains power.
For the 12 Volt system to work, the 12 Volt main switch must
be in the 'on' position. All vehicles can be connected to 240
Volt mains power via the supplied 15 Amp extension lead with
large earth pin. All approved caravan park circuits are rated
at 15 amps.
What is supplied with Apollo campervans and motorhomes?
Each campervan and
motorhome is supplied with complimentary living equipment such
as bedding, cooking equipment, eating utensils,
bath and tea towels.
Apollo also supplies a complimentary Welcome Pack for your first
night. The pack contains matches, mini shampoo and conditioner,
dishwashing liquid, sponge, soap, salt and pepper, coffee, tea
and sugar sachets.
Vehicles are also supplied with comprehensive maps and camp
ground guides, as well as a free Apollo magazine containing travel
information and discount vouchers.
We strongly recommend you use soft bags instead of suitcases
for your luggage. Soft bags take up less room and fit more easily
into the storage cupboards and lockers in the vehicle.
When and where can I pick up and drop off my Apollo
vehicle?
Apollo's New Zealand
branches are situated in Auckland and Christchurch, with free airport
transport available. Apollo
branches are open
7 days from 8am to 4.30pm, but are closed on Christmas Day, New
Years Day and Good Friday. All Apollo branches are situated close
to airports for your convenience.
Do you have roadside assistance should I have a
breakdown or accident?
Apollo provides 24 hour roadside assistance
for your peace of mind. Please call Apollo's toll free number
at any time and speak
to the fleet department in the unlikely event you have an accident
or breakdown.
What is the Cost of Fuel?
Petrol (Gasoline) in New
Zealand comes in unleaded and leaded grades, and is sold by the
litre. Petrol and diesel fuel costs
upwards of $1.60 NZD per litre.
Please note that the exact prices can differ between petrol
stations. For more accurate information at the time of travel,
please contact the local branch.
Why should I choose the VIP Protection Package?
For
your peace of mind during your self drive holiday, the VIP Protection
Package is the best way to minimises your liability
when travelling in a hired vehicle. If you do not take the VIP
Protection Package you run the risk of being responsible for
considerable costs associated with damage to, or theft of, the
vehicle. This applies even if the damage was not your fault.
For example, you are liable if someone runs into you or if a
rock from a passing car hits your windscreen and causes damage.
Also, you are responsible for the subsequent costs if you are
unlucky enough to puncture a tyre.
VIP Protection gives you peace of mind in such circumstances,
as you will only be liable for a limited amount unless you breach
the terms and conditions of the rental contract. We recommend
you also take appropriate travel insurance for your peace of
mind while travelling in New Zealand.
How do I organize my FREE airport transfer from
the Auckland or Christchurch branch?
Apollo happily provides
free airport transfers for your New Zealand motorhome rental. Once
you arrive in New Zealand and
you are ready for your transfer, please call us on 0800 113 131
and follow the appropriate phone prompts. We will then arrange
for our special Apollo shuttle service to collect you from the
airport.
Can Apollo motorhomes and campervans play MP3 CDs/do
they have an iPod jack?
All Apollo campervans and motorhomes can
play MP3 CDs. However, most vehicles are not fitted with iPod
jacks. You can purchase
a radio transmitter at most electronic stores which will enable
you to play your iPod in your Apollo rental vehicle.
Are there cancellation fees?
Some fees may apply
if you cancel your rental booking. Please refer to Apollo's Terms
and Conditions for full details.
Do I need snow chains?
Apollo provides snow chains
for a fee of $50 per rental (must be pre-booked). Usually snow
chains are only required if you
are going to be skiing, or if you are travelling in winter during
bad weather and over mountainous terrain. Chains are also required
by law to travel on Milford Rd between July and October.
What are toll roads, and do I have to pay to use
them?
Toll roads are roads which charge a fee in exchange for access
through to your destination. If you are touring New Zealand's
North Island, you may pass through the Northern Gateway Toll
Road. When driving a rental vehicle in New Zealand, you are responsible
for paying toll fees, so it is important to be aware of payment
options before you travel. Visit the Northern Gateway Toll Road
website for more information.
IMPORTANT: Please be aware that the information above serves
to answer frequently asked questions only. For full Apollo Terms
and Conditions please refer to your Apollo Rental Agreement.
